Tanzania has managed to preserve and document its culture and history through its National Museum of Tanzania.The main and largest National Museum of Tanzania is the Nyerere National Museum which was established in 1934 and it is located in Dar es Salaam. In this museum, you will find the traditional crafts like, head dresses, ornaments, traditional musical instruments, old age hunting and gathering tools, traditional healing, and many others Tanzania’s traditional resources. Apart from Tanzania’s local traditional tools and history, this museum preserved the history of the famous Dr Leakey and his wife Mary Leakey who discovered the skull of the first human beings in Olduvai Gorge Tanzania.

Dar es Salaam National Museum in Tanzania

The Dar es Salaam National Museum was established in 1934 and since 1940 it was open to the public. This museum was originally a memorial museum dedicated to King George V. This museum was first renovated and expanded in 1963, and gain in the year 2009. Now dare s Salaam National Museum is dedicated to the history of Tanzania.

 Location:

The Dar es Salaam National Museum is located in Shabban Robert Street, next to the Botanical Garden. The museum is at the heart of the city centre.

Accessibility:

Dar es Salaam museum is accessible by road.

Attractions:

The museum displays traditional crafts, head dresses, ornaments and musical instruments. Hunting and gathering, traditional healing, others few back clothes and a wooden bicycle.
